RED BOMBERS ALUMNI; we want your input!

February 13, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Hello,

My name is Pat Forbes and I am a member of the 2010-2011 UNB Red Bombers Players Executive. Recently we have had a meeting and one of our main topics of discussion was about the alumni of our team and program. We have realized that we have not done very much to date to properly represent you as a group.

Essentially, we are looking to you guys for ideas, big or small, that you think would help better represent our largest fan base. We have some ideas we are throwing around at our executive meetings, but we figured why not  go directly to the source and see what you want.

It has been a long time since some of you have worn the jersey of the Red Bombers but we want each and every one of you to feel that you are as much a part of this team today is as you were while you were playing. Our goal is to have the alumni represented as best we can and we want to bring back the pride of being a part of the UNB Red Bombers organization!

Please do not hesitate with any ideas, any and all are welcome.

You can either leave a comment or send your ideas to: pat.forbes@unb.ca

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

2010/2011 Red Bombers Player Executive

A Note From Coach Dolly on Tony Proudfoot

January 1, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

On a sad personal note  that has a strong connection to the UNB RED BOMBERS, no doubt you have read that Tony Proudfoot (#24 Red Bomber 67-70 Team Captain) has died  following a 3 year battle against ALS. Tony was an inspiring player who lead by example on the field. He played for the. Alouettes and BC Lions.

He had shared  the terrors of dying from ALS by writing several articles in the Montreal Gazette on the progression of his disease and how he was coping.  Below is the final instalment from  3 weeks ago.  Following the article,  I was fortunate to contact Tony and remember our days as teammates on the Bombers.  Despite being terribly  sick Tony, in his very unassuming way, showed up behind the bench at the first game of the new Red Bombers in 2009. In his parting comments to me last week he made sure to say …”keep on trucking with the BOMBERS!!!” Obviously, his time at UNB with our team had an impact on him and  still meant allot him even though he won a couple of Grey Cups.

As you read the the article below you’ll notice Tony’s personal mantra:”Suck it up, no whining allowed!!” I advised him that  next year  his mantra will will stand along side of our 2010 motto: “No Excuses” Read more
